Matthew Henson: To the Top of the World

Matthew Henson: To the Top of the World

Matthew Hanson was a black man born in Charles Country, Maryland, in 1867. By the time he was twelve years old, he worked on a ship where he met a nice captain.

The captain taught him to read and write and the two became great friends. After the captain died, Henson went to work in a hat store. This is when he met Peary had a plan to conquer the North Pole and invited his friend to keep him company and Hanson not only accepted his invitation as he learned the lifestyle of the Eskimos to be able to better help his friend.

Finally, after the 8 th unsuccessful attempt where the Commander Robert had been rescued and saved by his friend Hanson, they have achieved their goal, but only the Commander Robert Peary was recognized by the population and became famous.

Unfortunately, I think that sort of thing still happens often, because types of discrimination whether racial or otherwise are not only problems early in the century, these problems have not yet been resolved and still happen.

Both of them should have received honors for having conquered the North Polo, because one without the other would not have achieved the goal and I think it would be the fairest way of recognition.

The Lady, or The Tiger?

The Lady, or The Tiger?

(Frank Stockton)

It is difficult to decide how the story ands. If the princess had told her lover in which door was the lady, her lover would not be devoured by the tiger, but he would go to live with another beautiful woman. The princess can’t live with that!

On the other hand, perhaps if behind the door that her lover had chosen was the tiger, the princess would not have to share his love, attention, and affection with another woman, but she would not have is love anymore either.

Personally, I think if she really loved him she would help him choose the door where the lady was, because when you truly love someone you do not want to see his death at any time. It would have been an easy decision for me, jealousy and the ability to imagine your lover in other arms is annoying, but no reason to kill.

Appointment at Noon

Appointment at Noon

(Eric Frank Russel)

In our way of life we find various types of people, and one of those types that you find is a bully. This type of person (bully) is not fearful of anything and think nothing can stop them, and feel above everyone and everything.

Mr. Henry Curran was a big business man, busy and successful and a the profile exactly the same as described above. All orders had to be performed and all had to be carried out very quickly and accurately. He was definitely not even a little friendly and amiable.

So, Mr. Henry Curran did not expect that death was scheduled for him at noon and at that time he did not have any control of situation. For control of everything and everyone, all power was given to our Master Jesus. We do not have the right to judge over something or someone else. To be a leader is to know beyond all listen and be polite and cordial, not to take leadership without charges dialogue.

However, if you do not repent of your actions in advance, when death comes it, may be too late!

Comments about the story:

Underwater Test

(Robert Zacks)

The crew members were not instructed to be friendly, because the any situation that Jimmy was going through a test. The crew had to give Jimmy a very dangerous challenge that seemed real. They wanted to find out Jimmi’s attitude on that occasion. Maybe if all the crew had been friendly with Jimmy would not have achieved goal of the best with both success.

The story is called “Underwater Test” because the for Jimmy to be part of this crew he needed to undergo a test.

The problem with human compassion

The problem with human compassion

(Shankar Vedantan – THE WEEK February 19, 2010)

This report is very important, because it makes us think about what is the true meaning and the application for the word “compassion”. People from many different parts of the world made donations and raised $ 300,000 to rescue a dog that was drifting in a ship somewhere in the pacific ocean.

However, every day thousands of children die of hunger and diseases in Africa and other places and it does not make people a thousand times more sad. This leads us to believe that there is a disturbance of ideas.

So, it makes us think about what is less important? Thousands of lives saved from starvation and diseases or a dog adrift at sea?

Moral of the story
In this case, just ask for something if you are prepared for the answer!

The Getaway

The feed merchants had a little conference on the way out, talking in whispers. Then they stopped in the middle of the floor, turned around, reached inside their jackets, and pulled guns on us. Automatic pistols, I think they were. “You sit here now”.

At this moment all the people were afraid and did everything they were told. However the thieves didn’t know that the restaurant owner was a teacher of martial arts, and through an incredible coup removed the guns from the thieves and tied them with a rope. After the restaurant owner called the police to arrest them, but the police man looked at him and said “You should not have done it, because you could have died”.

In the end the restaurant owner smiled and said, “I am expert an and not going to do it if I was not sure I could beat the thieves”.

The end!
